Bike Kill - Red Hook
In late October, at an undisclosed location, Brooklyn’s Black Label Bike Club unleashes one of NYC’s most notorious, off-the-grid, off-the-hook, punk rock block parties. At the center of the celebration are custom-built mutant bikes and those who dare are welcome to ride. As the sun sets, the fires of anarchy begin to burn and apocalyptic outlaws mount steely double-decker steeds on a rowdy quest for glory. With “NO BRAKES” as a battle cry, the knightly jousters are handed a sturdy lance and then hurled at their opponents with bruising force. The air is filled with cigarette smoke, firecrackers, and beer can projectiles that are frothing and flung with mischievous fury. The crowd roars, the music blares, and a festive frenzy ignites! A veteran biker smiles at us and proclaims, “This is my favorite day of the year!”
